In short

An Oxford master’s scholarship for people who will go home and work on a public problem. You apply for the degree and the scholarship together. A place gained in Oxford’s later March round is not considered for this award.

Only courses on Oxford’s eligible list count. Law, public health and some engineering and policy courses appear on that list in some years and not in others. Open the list. A college offer on its own is not this scholarship.

Who can apply

  • You are ordinarily resident in an eligible country. Residence is what they ask about, not just the passport. A person who declared refugee or displaced status is assessed on nationality instead.
  • You would not be able to pay for Oxford yourself.
  • You are starting a new full-time graduate course. A deferred offer for 2027–28 cannot be used. A student already at Oxford cannot apply unless they are already a Weidenfeld-Hoffmann scholar.
  • You can connect the course to work that improves public life at home, or at a regional or international level, and you intend to return.

Papers they ask for

  • The Oxford graduate application, with this scholarship selected in the scholarships section.
  • The Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships Statement 2027/28, uploaded with that application.
  • The transcripts, references and written work the course itself requires.

What it pays

  • The course fees for an eligible Oxford graduate course
  • A grant for living costs. The figure for this year is on the Oxford page, not in a repost
  • A leadership programme alongside the degree

How to apply

  1. Read the eligible-course list and the eligible-country list on the Oxford page. Confirm Sierra Leone is still there.
  2. Note the deadline on the course page. Many fall in December 2026. Some fall in January 2027. A few have an earlier date.
  3. Submit the course application, the scholarship selection, and the statement by that deadline.
  4. Do not ask to be moved into the March round and still be considered. Oxford says those applications are not read for this scholarship.

Read this before you file

  • The January date on this note is the late end of the window Oxford describes. It is not a promise that your course is still open in January.
  • Someone who copies a stipend from a blog is guessing. Use the figure Oxford prints for 2027/28.
  • There is no separate Trust application and no fee to be ‘nominated’.

Checked against the provider’s page on 11 October 2026. If this note and that page disagree, the provider is right. Lanbuk does not award this scholarship.
