In short
Four merit awards of £5,000 off tuition for self-funded international students starting a taught master's in January 2027. Sierra Leone is an eligible country.
About the university and the award
Robert Gordon University (RGU) is a university in Aberdeen, Scotland. Its International Student January Scholarship is for postgraduate students starting in the January intake. RGU says it created the award because many outside scholarships focus on September starters.
RGU is offering 4 merit-based scholarships, each worth £5,000 off postgraduate tuition fees.
What the scholarship covers
The page does not mention living costs, travel or other support.
- A £5,000 discount on your postgraduate tuition fees.
- It is a fee reduction, not cash, and is applied when you enrol.
Who is eligible
Eligible countries of residence include Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Mauritius and Egypt, along with many countries in Asia, the Middle East and the Americas. RGU says that if your country is not listed you may still be eligible, and you should contact its International Team.
You must:
Eligible courses:
- Have an offer for a postgraduate course at RGU starting in January 2027.
- Meet all the conditions of your offer, except the deposit, by 5 November.
- Be a self-funded student paying international fees.
- Be willing to act as an ambassador to future students of the scholarship.
- Full-time, on-campus, taught postgraduate courses in any subject.
- Master's by research courses are not included.
How to apply, step by step
- Apply to an RGU taught postgraduate course with a January 2027 start and get an offer.
- Meet every condition of the offer (apart from the deposit) by 5 November 2026, for example by sending final transcripts or English test results.
- Fill in RGU's scholarship application form, linked from the official page. RGU asks you to submit only once.
- Wait for RGU's decision. Awards are made at the university's discretion and applied when you enrol.
Deadline
- 5 November 2026: deadline to apply and to meet the conditions of your offer.
- January 2027: course start.
Terms and conditions
- Scholarships, financial awards and discounts are applied when you enrol.
- Discounts are awarded at the university's discretion.
- Only one award can be held per offer. If you qualify for more than one, RGU applies the most valuable one.
- RGU scholarships and awards are for self-funding students only, so sponsored students are excluded.
Selection
The award is merit-based, and only 4 are available. The page does not give more detail about how applications are scored.
Tips from the source
- Clear your offer conditions early; an unmet condition on 5 November makes you ineligible.
- Submit the form once, as RGU asks.
- If your country is not listed, email the International Team before the deadline.

For questions, email international@rgu.ac.uk. The official page is on rgu.ac.uk under Funding and Scholarships. The source is short, so RGU's page is the final word.
